Training Needs Analysis

Mitigate your risks in recruitment, team building and employee placement and promotion while maximising your organisational effectiveness with a full Employee Assessment.

Our Employee Assessments will provide you with information on recruitment and assignment suitability, your employee’s learning style, logic and reasoning abilities and leadership capabilities.

Fortner Consulting Approach

We work with you to design the right format of Assessment Centre for your organisation. Typically, the average Assessment Centre will have at least three levels of testing to ensure we capture as much data as possible on the candidate.

To ensure good evaluation criteria, we will identify the Core Competencies necessary for the position and design the centre towards capturing information on the individual’s proficiency in those competencies.

Types of Assessments

Psychometric Analysis

Fortner Consulting offers a range of Psychometric Assessment tools.  We will work with our clients to identify the most appropriate tools for their needs. Psychometric tools may also be custom designed for specific requirements.

Group Exercises

Group exercises can include a practical exercise, problem solving, or a group discussion or debate. Most commonly, assessors will sit at different points around the room and observe how you work with others to achieve the desired result. Competencies that assessors will be looking for from this form of assessment include your ability to work well with others, i.e. your listening, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Presentations

Generally, when presentations are part of the assessment process, you will be given a topic either in advance or on the day and will be told how long to present for. This can include presenting to other candidates in the group, or directly to the assessors. This form of assessment tests your topic knowledge, ability to structure a presentation, and to see how effectively you can communicate information to others. It may also assess how you respond to unexpected questions.

In-Basket Simulations

In-basket simulations involve you being given an in-basket, full of company memos, telephone messages, reports and correspondence (in no particular order) as if you have gone on vacation and just returned back to the office after two weeks.

Time is an important factor here, as you are expected to work quickly through items that are of varying degrees of urgency and importance, making a decision on what action (if any) is required, as well as drafting responses where necessary. Your ability to plan and prioritise complex information in a brief period of time will mainly be tested here, though there may also be a test of your written or other communication skills.

Case Study

Case study exercises may be completed in a group or individually. They typically involve review and analysis of a few pages of information and data, often related to the employer’s business, and require a written report or discussion.

At Fortner Consulting, we recommend designing the case study to real life examples that have occurred at your organisation.  The case study therefore becomes more realistic and answers received more pertinent and valuable.   Here, you will be tested on your ability to analyse information and to think logically, as well as your ability to express yourself both concisely and clearly.

Behavioural Interviewing

The best indicator of future performance is past performance.  Behavioural interviewing will capture how the candidate has handled various issues in the past (e.g. employee issues, customer service issues).  The questions are designed to test ability in each of the Core Competencies identified as key to the position.   The client can choose the interviewing style -- from one-on-one interviews to panel interviewing.

360 Degree Feedback

360 Degree feedback is an effective and comprehensive method for employee evaluation and appraisal. 360 Degree feedback addresses key weakness that exists in the more traditional performance appraisal methods by including feedback from multiple sources, including peers, supervisors, and direct reports.

Final Report

After completing the analysis on each candidate, Fortner Consulting will compile an Assessment Report on each candidate summarising their proficiency in each core competency, identify areas of concern, specify training and development requirements and make a recommendation on possible future assignments/positions for the candidate.
